The first batch of these cadets was led by Cadet Inspector Sim Chor Boon. Three months later, Staff Sergeant Shi Zhen from Loyang Secondary School came to assist in the training. Not long after, Staff Sergeant Shi Zhen became a Cadet Inspector himself in June 2000. He was the first official Cadet Inspector in East Spring Secondary School.
A strong foundation of skills and knowledge was essential for the pioneer batch of cadets. Thus, the responsibility of the officers and instructors then was to ensure the weekly trainings are planned holistically. Vigorous trainings were conducted to ensure the achievement of good quality cadets. The pioneer batch of cadets went through a Secondary One camp as an orientation to ESSS NPCC. During the camp, they were nurtured as disciplined, efficient and strong-minded cadets and had obtained the important part of NPCC, team spirit. With that, they were expected to lead the unit in the upcoming years as NCO, when the following batches of cadets would be recruited into NPCC. Though it was a difficult process during the start up, ESSS NPCC managed to attain a Bronze for Unit Overall Proficiency Award in just two years time.
Since then, the role of ESSS NPCC includes training cadets in terms of soft and hard skills to develop their cadets into responsible and initiative people who will learn to reach out beyond their comfort zone and which will further breakthrough their leadership potential in themselves. The cadets were trained on how to plan and organise events such as camps and competitions for the unit. Also, they are actively involved in participating competitions and had won numerous medals for the unit. Through the years, there are many ESSS NPCC cadets who came back as Cadet Inspectors and Honorary Officers.
In 2019, ESSS NPCC was then merged with East View Secondary School NPCC cadets. Still keeping the units' name, working hand in hand with new cadets and officers, ESSS NPCC will shape their cadets to be the best of their abilities. The cadets will be trained to expand their limits and constantly improving themselves to be the best. Also, with their cadets being actively involve in competitions and event, the unit has raise the units' overall. Since then, ESSS NPCC has attained 7 consecutive Gold Award for the Unit Overall Proficiency Award (UOPA). ESSS NPCC will continue to mould all of the cadets to strive to be the best leader they can be with the help of their Cadet Inspectors and Officers.
In 2023, ESSS NPCC changed to Area 6 which comprises of 6 units.
